Nearly five decades after Liang Kee Farming began producing eggs in Kampar, Perak, LK Fresh continues to rethink what a modern Malaysian egg business can become.

For Managing Director Tan Leng Yee, the direction is clear: long-term value comes from improving how food is produced, not simply competing to produce the cheapest egg.
Growing Higher-Welfare Production
LK Fresh has produced cage-free eggs since 2019 and continues to expand its free-range capability. The farm is investing in purpose-built free-range housing designed for Malaysia’s tropical environment, where ventilation, feed distribution, heat management and outdoor access all influence bird welfare and production performance.
This direction builds on LK Fresh’s participation in the Certified Humane® programme, under which animal husbandry and farm management are assessed against independent welfare requirements covering housing, feeding, health and management.
Taking Greater Control of Feed
Feed is one of the most important inputs in egg production. LK Fresh is therefore strengthening its ability to manage feed quality through its own premix capability, giving the farm greater oversight of ingredients and formulation rather than relying entirely on externally supplied premixes.

This reflects a much longer transformation within Liang Kee Farming. Mr Tan recalls helping his family grade eggs manually as a child; today, automated systems perform much of that work. LK Fresh’s relationship with poultry-equipment specialist Big Dutchman also stretches back more than two decades.
Moving Beyond the Shell
LK Fresh’s next stage of development extends beyond whole-shell eggs. Investments in downstream processing, including liquid egg capability, are intended to support food manufacturers and foodservice customers seeking reliable higher-welfare egg supply.
This represents an important shift in the LK Fresh business model: from selling eggs to managing more of the value created around the egg.
Connecting the Farm With Future Chefs
Responsible food production becomes more meaningful when the next generation of food professionals understands where ingredients come from. LK Fresh has been building links with culinary education, giving students and future chefs exposure to free-range eggs and the production systems behind them.
